Engines burn a ratio of fuel to oxygen. It's how they get the power they need to run. No engine does this on its own, though. The factory spark plugs on top of its cylinder head help. They start the combustion process. So, how do spark plugs work? Turn the key in your GM ignition. Your ignition switch activates. Your battery, starter motor, solenoid, and ignition coil then work together to send the plugs an electrical charge. The charge arcs across plug leads, igniting that mix of air and gas. As a result, your engine pistons pump, your crankshaft turns, and many other moving parts get moving. Your vehicle then gets going. Without OEM spark plugs, though, no car, truck, or SUV could start at all.

Learn to Spot Bad Spark Plugs

Even spark plugs made by GM go bad sooner or later, for all their proven quality. For one, their leads can corrode and widen. That weakens charges to insignificance. A bad spark plug can also cause your engine to misfire or shut down. A broken spark plug, however, is dangerous to an engine: it can severely damage its cylinders. Signs of failure include:

  • Uneven idling
  • Engine misfires
  • Problems starting your vehicle
  • Your "Check Engine" dashboard light engages

You Can Trust Genuine OEM Spark Plugs

Luckily, the spark plugs of today are built to last for millions of ignitions and up to 100,000 miles. Just be sure to change those nearing their recommended mileage limit. What spark plugs do I need, you ask? That depends on your GM model. Genuine spark plugs, however, will work best for GM vehicles either way. That's because they're designed to. You can buy them online, too, right here at our auto parts store. Just browse our inventory by model to find the right fit. Get the peace of mind of another DIY project done. Order now!
