Control arms or "A arms" are fundamental parts of a GM front suspension. Some vehicles have four – two lower and two upper control arms.

What Control Arms Do

In short, they make sure your front wheels stay on the road. They connect a GM frame or body to a wheel assembly via a steering knuckle using rubber bushings. These allow an "A arm" to swing vertically as a vehicle's front wheels and tires cross over road hazards like bumps and potholes. The outer end of a control arm connects via a ball joint. The latter is either permanently attached or pressed or bolted in for separate replacement.

Sooner or later, though, even the best control arms can wear out, bend, or get damaged, making a vehicle unsafe to drive.

How to Spot Failing Control Arms

Thankfully, the signs a control arm is going bad are easy to spot. They include:

  • The wheels vibrate or wobble
  • Your steering wheel roams or pulls to one side
  • You notice unusual sounds
  • Your ride is less comfortable than usual
  • You spot uneven tire wear

Drive Safe and Smart | Install Genuine OEM Control Arms

Experiencing these symptoms? Lift your vehicle on a hoist and inspect it to determine the problem. It's best to do this once a year, at least. If it's replacement time, stick with genuine GM control arms and parts. Those made by your OEM are, after all, the best compatibility guarantee for what you drive. You can order them online, too, right here at our auto parts store. Do the job right – buy now!
